Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS) is a leader in disaster recovery, providing custom-tailored production and recovery services to medium and large businesses. In order to best serve its global customers, the organization needed an identity platform that would boost the productivity of employees while keeping them secure.
Sungard AS wanted to simplify the administration of its authentication services. Previously, they were using a cumbersome hardware token technology that required significant overhead from the operations team. In addition, they wanted to consolidate their single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) needs into a single identity platform, rather than support multiple vendors.
Patel’s team selected PingFederate to provide seamless access to all of the internal, cloud, and SaaS-based apps that Sungard AS employees need. Because of the flexibility and standards-based architecture that Ping offers, the IT team is able to connect all new applications quickly, on an ongoing basis.
Given the desire to provide a more secure environment for their users, Sungard AS also evaluated a handful of providers for multi-factor authentication. PingID stood out as the best solution because of a couple of factors. First, the organization had already been successful with PingFederate, and they knew setting up PingID would be fast and simple. Second, it would eliminate on-premises infrastructure and the hardware burden on both administrators and users. Lastly, users loved the one-touch swipe authentication.
