Objective
As a leader in infrastructure engineering software, Bentley Systems aimed to future-proof its digital business. The goal was to establish a standards-based, cloud-first identity layer that could support global data residency, provide always-on access, and integrate seamlessly across desktop, cloud, and server applications.
Challenge
Bentley faced the "Herculean task" of ensuring business continuity across an extensive install base of legacy applications and independent federations. The existing infrastructure was complex to manage and slowed the integration of new products, services, and acquisitions.
Solution
Bentley deployed the Ping Identity platform to create a flexible, modular identity architecture. By utilizing standards-based authentication and centralized authorization, they were able to mimic legacy environments during the transition, ensuring a "big bang" migration without disrupting existing user workflows.
Results
The migration covered 1,000+ applications, including 230+ independent federations and 300+ OIDC-based applications. This unified approach has reduced the total cost of ownership and allowed Bentley’s engineers to focus on advancing digital twin technology rather than managing identity debt.
