Spark aimed to replace three fragmented IAM systems with a unified solution to enhance security, simplify management, and deliver seamless experiences across its self-service portal and mobile app. The solution needed to support 3.5M+ users, integrate with legacy systems, and scale to support agile development and modern directory services.
Challenge
Spark needed to modernize its IAM by replacing multiple legacy systems with one unified platform that supported REST APIs, OpenID Connect, and provided flexible authentication options—without disrupting customer access.
What drew us to Ping was that it enabled us to present a login page and connect to existing legacy systems. There aren’t many products that can do that.

Solution
Spark selected Ping to unify its access management systems and modernize IAM across 60+ applications. Identity Gateway helped Spark connect to legacy systems while enabling future-proof protocols like OpenID Connect. The deployment included support for social sign-on (Google, Facebook), persisted sessions in mobile apps, and REST-based authentication. Spark also extended Ping to replace its legacy directory services and identity management platform, improving performance and enabling real-time provisioning through APIs.
