Objective
Founded in 1998, Equinix grew quickly. Its IT department needed to modernize access for 2,500 employees, requiring easier SSO, better visibility, and mobile access for on-premises apps. The goal was to provide a consumer-like, secure SSO business environment.
Challenge
Employees struggled with multiple daily logins, numerous passwords, and inconsistent device experiences. The proliferation of on-premises and cloud applications, each requiring unique credentials, hampered productivity. Mobile access, especially for tablets, was cumbersome. Following acquisitions, employees had difficulty finding the right applications, leading to increased IT support calls.
Solution
Equinix deployed a centralized identity and access management solution. By prioritizing a standards-based approach, they integrated various applications into a single authentication flow, reducing friction without compromising the rigorous security standards required for critical infrastructure.
Results
PingFederate helped Equinix meet all its goals. Employees access apps with just one sign-on, saving Equinix 500 employee hours over four months. On-premises and cloud app access is seamless through CloudDesktop, where 56 percent of the workforce accessed apps within two hours of launch. The site had more than 65,000 Oracle logins and 10,000 logins for other apps per month. Most importantly, visibility problems have been eliminated because employees go to a single location to find any application they need.
