Challenge

GPC needed to move quickly to modernize identity across a complex global business with multiple brands, legacy platforms, and nearly 50 directory instances.

Results

GPC consolidated its environment into one Ping Directory and 12 active directories globally, resolved around 4,700 vulnerabilities in 12 months, and improved both cost efficiency and UX.

Objective

Genuine Parts Company (GPC), a leading global service provider of automotive and industrial replacement parts behind brands like NAPA in the U.S., partnered with Ping Identity to modernize identity across its workforce and customer environments. By moving quickly, consolidating fragmented directories, and deploying Ping globally, GPC improved operational efficiency, reduced risk, and created a stronger foundation for better user experiences.

Challenge

Genuine Parts Company operates a broad portfolio of brands across 17 countries, with automotive and industrial retail as its primary footprint. That scale created operational challenges across identity systems, especially as the company began transforming legacy components and supporting both workforce and customer journeys. To meet the growth GPC was experiencing, they needed a solution that could simplify the environment, improve security, and support modernization without slowing the business down.

Solution

Ping stood out for its flexibility, ease of implementation, out-of-the-box capabilities, and strong reputation as an enterprise-grade partner. One of the first major steps was the workforce identity consolidation. GPC reduced close to 50 directory instances into one Ping Directory and 12 active directories globally. From there, the company expanded its use of Ping across B2B and customer use cases.

GPC leveraged PingOne DaVinci’s no-code orchestration to help migrate legacy components and support a more progressive profiling approach. GPC can prompt for additional information over time to build more complete and accurate customer profiles. Authentication, MFA, profile management, and self-registration all work together to create a seamless and secure identity experience.

Results

The consolidation effort delivered significant cost savings and operational efficiency. In a span of 12 months, GPC resolved around 4,700 vulnerabilities. GPC also praised the agility and flexibility of the platform.

What started as a large workforce identity consolidation transformed into a broader relationship. The speed and success of the effort, along with positive feedback from their users, instilled confidence in GPC, leading the company to expand its Ping deployment to customer and B2B use cases.
