Mox Bank Redefines Digital Banking with a Cloud-Native Identity Foundation

Challenge

To compete with established incumbents, Mox needed a robust identity and access management (IAM) system that could handle strict financial regulations in Hong Kong while remaining invisible to the customer. They required a solution that supported a microservices-based architecture, allowed for rapid deployment, and could scale to accommodate massive user growth from the moment the app went live.

Solution

Mox selected the Ping Identity (formerly ForgeRock) platform as its core identity layer. Built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the solution uses an API-first approach to manage customer identities and secure microservices. The platform enables secure, passwordless-ready authentication and integrates deeply into the Mox app to provide a frictionless onboarding journey, including identity verification and real-time access control.

Results

The identity-first approach allowed Mox to launch with incredible speed and reliability. Within its first year, Mox became one of the fastest-growing virtual banks in the region, processing millions of transactions with 24/7 availability. The platform’s flexibility enables Mox to release new features—such as Mox Credit or instant goal-based savings—with the confidence that the underlying identity security is scalable and compliant with HKMA (Hong Kong Monetary Authority) standards.
