Repsol Energizes Employees With One-click Cloud Access

Objective
In line with its strategy of international leadership in the energy sector, Repsol needed a secure access solution for its expanding portfolio of corporate cloud applications, including those for innovation and corporate social networks. The goal was to offer all users—both in HQ and in the field—easy and secure access using their existing corporate credentials.
Challenge
Repsol’s IT department struggled with previous solutions that featured complex architectures, frequent errors, and a lack of support for federation standards. Without a unified system, employees had to remember different passwords for external platforms accessed only occasionally. This resulted in frequent requests for new credentials, draining both user productivity and IT support resources. Repsol required a tool that met the strict standards of the Kantara Initiative.
Solution
Repsol chose PingFederate, a full-featured federation server, to provide web Single Sign-On (SSO) for its global workforce. PingFederate was selected for its task-oriented nature, simple architecture, and superior integration capabilities across diverse platforms compared to competitors. The implementation was rapid; within three months, Repsol began integrating various corporate cloud applications, enabling users to access services without distributing credentials to third-party systems.
Results
The primary benefit of the PingFederate deployment was the perfect balance between ease of use and high-level security. By integrating Ping with Repsol’s standard authentication methods, employees connected to the corporate network can now automatically access cloud services after their initial device login. This has improved access times and overall user efficiency, leading to a new corporate mandate: any new cloud service contracted by Repsol must now be integrated with PingFederate.
Not having to remember and maintain multiple passwords and being able to access the applications using personal corporate credentials has improved access times, leading to greater efficiency for users.
