Fluent Commerce provides world class Distributed Order Management to retailers, brands, and B2B businesses. Their product—Fluent Order Management—allows their customers to get a single view of inventory to manage and fulfill orders as efficiently as possible. This allows companies to meet rapidly changing consumer demands and expectations now and in the future, but also, bring in more profit for the company.
Despite Fluent Commerce’s success thus far, providing an order management system for commerce businesses across the globe that allows their users to then deliver (both figuratively and literally!) to their own customers, is not an easy feat. It’s a massive undertaking for any company, especially with the need to keep security, user experience, and flexibility top of mind.
Therefore, Fluent Commerce looked for ways to provide a better option for their customers to manage their own user identities. This included finding a solution that would integrate Fluent Commerce’s identity partners with their software in order to provide additional functionality and flexibility for their customers.
To accomplish this, Fluent Commerce required a deployment for three different regions, each of which needed a separate environment for compliance reasons. With a tight timeline to reach this goal in just eight months, they needed to find an identity company that was up to the task.
Today’s consumers are a product of the rapid rise of digital retailers and dramatic changes in ecommerce. This environment has impacted the way consumers interact with stores; i.e., their high expectations of getting goods delivered to their doorstep as quickly as possible, from anywhere in the world.
“Managing inventory at a fast pace is what we do—for example, for some big events, when a lot of orders are coming in the response needs to be less than a second to create an order and to organize fulfillment for the order. That's a technical challenge that we are solving with our platform,” said Mila Anisimova, Product Manager at Fluent Commerce.
This meant that in order for Fluent Commerce to understand their own challenges, they first had to understand the goals of the businesses they were serving. Then, they’d be in a position to better help their customers make sure they had the flexibility to create a complex order as they would like.
Remember: Fluent Commerce needed a way to provide their customers with additional functionality, flexibility, and security. To ultimately accomplish this, Fluent Commerce knew that they wanted an SSO solution that could be integrated with their customers’ identities. But when they were tasked with researching what was out there, they found that there weren’t many companies that could meet their unique use case.
Fluent Commerce required a solution that could address the challenges mentioned above, meeting the needs and desires of everyone involved, and all while supporting a multi-tenant architecture. What they envisioned was an identity management system that worked to simplify the user management of their customers overall, securing their users’ identities while allowing them to remain flexible in how they managed these identities.
Our PingOne platform was able to easily integrate the identity function for Fluent Commerce’s customers, connecting that desirable SSO capability at the same time. Ping was able to provide an identity solution that was scalable and secure to meet the needs of Fluent Commerce’s global customers.
Every customer has their own requirements, and they would like to set up their system according to their unique requirements. Some clients would like to block an account after a few attempts, and some clients would like to remove all data from their account and then recreate and use it again. There are specific password settings they would like to have. Every company has their own requirements and they don’t want to be dependent on requirements from any other company. Ping gave us that flexibility to allow our users to have their own requirements.

Thanks to Ping, Fluent Commerce’s customers now have access to a federated connection from their SSO into Ping environments and use Ping Identity as a service provider. This successfully made user management much easier for their customers, which was a major achievement for Fluent Commerce, a company that strives to provide their customers with as much flexibility as possible to manage security as they like.
Across the board, this is a win-win situation for all parties involved. The results also mean that Fluent Commerce can maintain their role in the ecommerce industry—keeping the wheel running as users around the world continue to have high expectations in their shopping experiences and as retailers strive to meet those demands for their users.
