ROSSMANN Personalizes the Shopping Experience for Millions

ROSSMANN needed to replace fragmented systems with a modern, scalable identity solution to support its popular "Rossmann App" and provide a unified experience across all digital touchpoints.

By implementing a centralized Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) platform, ROSSMANN unified customer data and enabled high-performance authentication.

Objective

ROSSMANN aimed to transition from a traditional retailer to a digital leader by putting the customer at the center of their strategy. The objective was to create a Single Customer View that would allow the brand to offer highly personalized services, digital loyalty programs, and a frictionless shopping experience across web and mobile platforms.

Challenge

With over 4,000 stores and a massive online presence, ROSSMANN faced the challenge of managing millions of customer identities securely. Their existing infrastructure was siloed, making it difficult to provide a consistent experience or leverage customer data for personalization. They needed a solution that could handle massive traffic spikes—especially during promotional campaigns—while maintaining strict European data privacy standards (GDPR).

Solution

ROSSMANN implemented the Ping Identity (formerly ForgeRock) platform as its core CIAM solution. The platform manages the entire customer lifecycle, from registration and social login to consent management and secure authentication. It integrates directly with the ROSSMANN mobile app, allowing customers to access digital coupons and their loyalty cards instantly, even while in-store.

Results

The deployment of a unified identity platform has been a cornerstone of ROSSMANN’s digital success. The ROSSMANN app consistently ranks as a top retail app in Germany, with millions of users benefiting from a personalized, one-click experience. By centralizing identity, ROSSMANN has improved its ability to deliver relevant marketing, increased customer retention, and ensured that the digital journey is as reliable as the physical store experience.
