The Academy of Art University Paints a New Vision for Student-Centric IT with Ping Identity
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — September 19, 2013
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — September 19, 2013 — Ping Identity®, The Identity Security Company™, today announced it has been selected by the Academy of Art University (the Academy) to provide its students with simple and secure access on any device across its 21 campuses. After a rigorous evaluation, the Academy selected Ping Identity over Okta and Oracle.
The Academy of Art University is the largest accredited private art and design school in the United States, with more than 18,000 students, 3,000 employees and 70,000 alumni. The Academy’s identity and security needs are complex – identities and credentials for its population must be shared across the 21 colleges that create the academy. As a result, students need to be provisioned and re-provisioned to a multitude of applications and services during their time at school.
"We support a large-scale, highly-dynamic user population with diverse access needs. Students and faculty need access to a variety of on-premise and cloud applications across our campuses. We needed a solution that could enable this in a highly distributed environment, providing seamless and secure access to all resources all the time," says Erik Viens, executive VP of technology and CIO, The Academy of Art University. “Ping Identity met all of our needs and integrated with our core components, which was critical for us. With Ping, we’re able to provide a secure bridge from systems like PeopleSoft, Salesforce and Workday directly to student and faculty mobile devices, creating uninterrupted service throughout campus.”
Since implementing Ping Identity, the Academy has been able to create a student-centric IT service that enables unified identity management, single-sign-on, and broad accessibility. As a result, the Academy has:
“The Academy of Art University provides businesses with a great lesson on how to provide simple and secure access to much needed cloud apps in a distributed environment,” said Roger Oberg, vice president of marketing, Ping Identity. “By taking a student-centric approach to the IT challenges, the Academy was able to create an environment that can provision access, authenticate and authorize users to cloud apps in a single click.”
