For that past three years, KuppingerCole has been tracking the growth and advancement in this space with its annual Leadership Compass for CIAM platforms, reporting on the trends that define the industry and the vendors who are driving innovation. We’re honored to share the news that in the recently released 2018 report, KuppingerCole named Ping Identity an Overall Leader in CIAM for the third straight year.


Product, Innovation and Market Leader in CIAM

Saying that Ping “has been a pioneer in identity federation and access management since its inception” and “was among the first of the enterprise IAM vendors to adapt to consumer-facing requirements,” KuppingerCole placed Ping in the Leadership area of the three primary categories: Product Leadership, Innovation Leadership and Market Leadership.


The functional strength and completeness of products are the hallmarks of the Product Leadership category. Ping’s purpose-built customer IAM solution is fine-tuned for large enterprises, with capabilities including advanced registration, single sign-on, social login and contextual multi-factor authentication built specifically for customer use cases, enabling enterprises to balance security with seamless end user experience. 


When it comes to meeting emerging business requirements and taking a customer-oriented upgrade approach, KuppingerCole also found Ping to be a top performer. We’ve had a busy year, with multiple industry awards for innovation in areas including AI-driven API cybersecurity, deliverance in cloud and hybrid IT deployment models, and innovative business technology in the cybersecurity space


The numbers back up Ping’s leadership in CIAM, as evidenced by our recognition as a leader in the Market Leadership category. KuppingerCole measures factors such as number of customers, number of managed identities, geographic distribution of customers, size of deployments and services, geographic distribution of the partner ecosystem and more. In this growing market, KuppingerCole notes that they were not surprised by Ping’s strong position, given that we are both well established and have a good reputation in traditional IAM and identity as a service (IDaaS).

The report goes on to call out Ping’s strengths in a variety of areas, including numerous authentication options, many out-of-the-box connectors to SaaS / IDaaS, IoT integration via OAuth2 Device Flow, Cyber Threat Intelligence integration, and secure API access to internals.
