If March Madness means filling out your college basketball bracket, than May Madness means filling in your summer conference schedule.
Fast break to July. Ping is the Platinum sponsor of the fourth annual Cloud Identity Summit (CIS) in Napa, Calif.
The conference is for those who seek knowledge, insight and expertise in all things identity, including authentication, authorization, mobile and cloud.
This year, CIS 2013 is booked into a new venue. One that is closer to sea level and one that can handle what has now become an oversized crowd that arrives with their own demanding identity challenges.
Along with the crowd, the speaker list is growing, and attracting experts with varying angles on identity from individual deployments to vertical industry concerns.
Identity is emerging as the new perimeter and a foundational element for security, governance and privacy in today's distributed network evolution. The focus is not on new tools, but new models and how those are built, maintained and federated.
CIS 2013 offers a selection of daily keynotes, lectures, sessions and workshops. This year, the speaker lineup features the likes of Sameer Bhalotra, former head of cyber security at the White House, Bob Blakley, global head of information security at Citigroup, Dan Levin chief operating officer at Box, Colin Kincaid, vice president of networking software at Cisco, Eric Sachs, group product manager for identity at Google, and Benjamin Robbins, co-founder of Palador, who is on a one-year project to work "mobile only."
I'll be writing a series of posts leading up to CIS that will include the insights of some of these speakers so stay tuned.
Two days of workshops, which will run three-hours each, will focus on such topics as identity protocols (OAuth, OpenID Connect, SCIM); APIs; identity as a service; identity bridges; the marriage of mobile and identity; and angles on identity from Google, Microsoft, and Salesforce.com.
Wednesday, will kickoff three-days of conference session tracks exploring and debating various topics such as virtual identity stores, identity marketplaces, social identity, mobile ID, enterprise and cloud identity, end-user single sign-on case studies, mobile apps, new architectures, evolving authentication and access governance.
Ping Identity will play its typical facilitators role, but CIS doesn't come together without work within the industry and supporting sponsors such as Google (platinum), Covisint (gold), Radiant Logic (gold) Indentropy (silver), along with additional sponsorships from SailPoint, Box, and Centrify.
The dates are July 8-12 at Napa's Meritage Resort and Spa. For those with identity, security, cloud, mobile and the network perimeter in their wheel-houses, CIS is where peers meet, ideas are launched and projects born.
