Someone once said that teaching an "old dog new tricks" depends more on the trainer than the dog. In the case of Northern Air Cargo (NAC), convincing 320 employees to adopt a new self-service HR portal and a web-based safety reporting tool simply required rolling out an easy-to-use single sign-on (SSO) solution.
As an all-cargo airline, NAC flies to many rural and remote destinations. About half the company's employees are mobile; those who aren't don't spend much time on computers. Requiring multiple user IDs and passwords for new applications created a big barrier to adoption. The IT team at NAC knew they had to find an SSO solution that would let all employees sign in to the network once and have one-click access to any cloud app they needed. They went with PingOne.
PingOne, a cloud-deployed SAML-based SSO solution, allowed NAC users to connect once to any and all applications. PingOne also offered standards-based SSO from any device, integrated with NAC's Active Directory, and provided IT-controlled access to SaaS and local applications. And PingOne required no on-premises hardware or software -- an important criterion for NAC -- and supported hundreds of SaaS applications, including UltiPro from Ping Identity partner, Ultimate Software.
NAC employees have responded enthusiastically to PingOne's SSO. The workload has been cut in half on the IT service desk. Password resets are down, and so is general solution support.
"Once the solution was up and running, it has stayed working. We don't have to support it," says Michael Blanton, NAC's manager of enterprise applications. "I have to say it's been the easiest integration we've ever completed." Read the full Northern Air Cargo case study.
It turns out that with the right help, teaching new tricks can be easy! And Ping Identity will be bringing lots of SSO tips and tricks to Ultimate Software's Connections Conference in Las Vegas starting today. If you're headed to the event, be sure to stop by our booth to learn more.
