a good thing!
Change is a constant here
One of my favorite researchers, Brené Brown, has a great message about how strong self-esteem combined with an ability to be vulnerable is so institutionally powerful.
This is another one of those counter-intuitive ideas.
TED Talks: Brené Brown: The power of vulnerability
You don't hear too many business people talking about vulnerability except in the bad sense. It's like a third rail. Mostly, the idea worries people.
To be specific, Brené speaks to how "vulnerability is the birthplace of change." As I look around at all the great people we have working at Ping, I can see exactly what she means.
There's great emotional depth and maturity here. As a result we get stronger together every day. Is this an essential quality for a small rapidly growing company?
Many at Ping have had the startup experience before. They've worn the many hats, done whatever was needed, worked the long hours, etc.
When you see this in your own team, it's powerful stuff. Is it essential? Absolutely.
