DENVER, Colo. — September 24, 2013 — Ping Identity®, The Identity Security Company™, today announced that its Chief Technology Officer, Patrick Harding, has joined the board of the Open Identity Exchange (OIX), a nonprofit organization dedicated to building trust in the exchange of online identity credentials across public and private sectors.
As one of the newest members of the OIX board, along with representatives from Microsoft and SecureKey, Harding is interested in helping complete the technology he believes is needed to achieve fully functional automated federation. The OIX is developing OIXnet to enable identity at scale via automated federation built on trust frameworks and attribute exchanges.
“What this means for day-to-day business is the on-the-fly ability to automatically build and tear down federations that support access controls. That power lets companies securely conduct transactions and provide access to information across historical boundaries and new-fangled devices,” said Patrick Harding, CTO of Ping Identity. “With automation, identity is truly available at scale and business is free to roam around a global network. I am looking forward to being more active in OIX, and to the positive impact this work will have on the industry.”
OIX has a member network that stretches from the Internet (including Google, PayPal), to data aggregation (including Equifax, Experian), to telecommunications (including AT&T, Verizon). OIX helps develop and register sets of trust framework agreements (business, legal and technical) that companies use to support trusted online transactions. OIX trust frameworks address the online identity “final mile” between manual processing and automation of trusted transactions. OIX also oversees attribute exchange pilots, including one being developed as part of the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC).
"It is noteworthy that three industry leaders, Ping Identity, Microsoft and SecureKey are joining the OIX Board at this critical time in the evolution of online identity," said Don Thibeau, chairman and president of OIX. “We are thrilled to bring Ping Identity and its expertise in identity to our board, and see this as a great opportunity to allow industry thought leaders, such as Patrick, to address the identity ecosystem and provide innovative solutions.”
About The Open Identity Exchange
The Open Identity Exchange (OIX) is a non-profit trade organization focused on internet identity solutions. OIX is a "team of rivals", with a membership of industry players representing a cross-section of private and public sectors e.g. the internet (Google, PayPal, etc.), data aggregation (Equifax, Experian, etc.), telecommunications (AT&T, Verizon, etc.) and government (UK Cabinet Office). The OIX's goal is to enable the expansion of online services and adoption of new online products through the development and registration of trust frameworks and sharing of domain expertise, joint research and pilot projects to test real-world use cases. OIX is building OIXnet, an authoritative registry for online identity trust to enable global interoperability among identity federations. openidentityexchange.org
