I’m sitting in a room at the Vail Cascade resort on a beautiful Sunday morning preparing for our 3rd Cloud Identity Summit, and thinking why this week is really special.

In just a few hours, nearly 400 of the worlds most insightful thinkers, architects and builders of identity and security will converge on this serene location to lay the foundation for the future of security.

When you’re in it, it’s hard to maintain the perspective of when an industry has hit a tipping point. Where small changes in circumstances result in large changes in behavior.

This past year, however, things have changed. Status quo, it feels, is no longer an option. Trends such as mobile, cloud and big data are simply too big to ignore, and too different to treat the same. As a result, we seem to be on the verge of a tipping point in terms of the recognition of identity in our future.

From a humble beginning a few years ago, CIS is now double in size and many times that in importance. The workshops that begin today have all sold out, every summit is at capacity and our little hotel, which once seemed so big, is bursting at the seams. This will be a special year in identity, and an event we will remember for some time to come.

The workshops cover a diverse spectrum of issues from protocol development to identity implementations to trust frameworks. The two conference days following the workshops present one of the deepest lineups assembled anywhere of end-user case studies, expert analysis, bleeding edge thinking and focused learning.

If you’re in Vail this week, plan your days carefully. If you were not able to make it, put next year on the calendar. We will announce our location shortly.

We are at a point in time where many enterprises and online services are looking for identity to solve security issues, and to replace the fading network security perimeter.

This week, we will move the needle.
