PingFederate 5.3 - Expanded Data Center and Manageability Features

January 15, 2009 , Andre Durand | IdM

We released 3 new versions of software today. All can be downloaded from the Ping Identity website.

  • PingFederate version 5.3
  • Salesforce.com Connector v3.2 (formerly the Salesforce.com Integration Kit)
  • Google Apps Connector v1.1 are now available for download.

The newest version of PingFederate incorporates new features extending the manageability of large PingFederate deployments, including an alternative management interface for managing connections and monitoring and managing provisioning channels, an alternative to CRL's for certificate revocation checking, and expanded platform functionality. In addition, changes have been made to PingFederate and the existing Salesforce and Google SaaS Connectors PingFederate to provide for expanded SaaS Connector support.

    PingFederate 5.3 Features

Connection Configuration Automation Interface: PingFederate now has a Command Line Interface that provides the ability to create, copy and update a connection. The admin can now create a script that will export a connection from a test deployment of PingFederate, make modifications to certain properties and import that connection in to production deployment of PingFederate. The Command Line Interface enables the migration of a connection across PingFederate deployments via a scripting interface, reducing the possibility of errors.

Provisioning Monitoring and Control Interface: An additional Command Line Interface is available that provides the ability to retrieve information about provisioning channels and provisioned users, as well as execute provisioning commands outside of the user interface. The admin can request information on active provisioning channels and status of the users targeted for provisioning. In addition, the admin can script synchronization of user accounts, including the scheduling of provisioning events to ensure accounts are up to date at the SaaS target. This interface provides more robust management of provisioning activities, ensuring the accurate status of user accounts at the SaaS target and easier error detection and correction via a command line interface.

Support for OCSP: With PingFederate v5.3, certificate revocation checking can now be handled via an Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) responder in addition to existing CRL capabilities. Administrators can also configure failover to CRL if the OSCP responder is not available. The addition of OCSP provides an alternative certificate revocation checking method, specifically for large PKI deployments.

Support for JDK 1.6: PingFederate now supports JDK v1.6.

Support for running as a service on 64-bit platforms: PingFederate can now be run as a service on 64-bit Operating Systems, allowing you to run PingFederate in a "hands-off" mode.

    Salesforce SaaS Connector v3.2 Features

SaaS Connector Plug-in: The PingFederate SaaS Connectors are now deployed independently via a plug-in architecture.

Support for Mutual TLS: PingFederate can now support a mutual TLS connection between Salesforce and the PingFederate Authentication Service.

Authentication User Name Flexibility: An option to remove the email domain from the Salesforce User Name for authentication to a LDAP directory has been added as a configuration parameter.

Salesforce Mobile Client Support: The Salesforce SaaS Connector can now be configured to support access via the Salesforce Mobile Client.

    Google SaaS Connector v1.1 Features

SaaS Connector Plug-in: The PingFederate SaaS Connectors are now deployed independently via a plug-in architecture.
