TV Everywhere- With Ping Identity
There’s an exciting development taking place right now in the world of television, video programming, and identity. While the vision of anytime, anywhere, and any device access to content has largely become a reality, it’s not yet true when it comes to TV programming content, which is today provided nearly exclusively through cable, telco, and satellite operators, or through a few sites such as Hulu (a joint venture owned by NBC Universal, News Corp., and Disney) or Fancast Xfinity TV (owned by Comcast).
That is all about to change. A new industry-wide initiative called TV Everywhere is promising to open the floodgates on digital video content, and wouldn’t you know it, identity and Ping are sitting right in the middle of it.
This week we announced a new partnership with Brightcove, the leading online video platform to provide TV programmers with everything required to operate branded and authenticated TV Everywhere-compatible catch-up TV services.
Underneath it all is an identity federation layer that will essentially map users to content over the Internet.
These are exciting times for identity, and the features we will be delivering to the TV industry will no-doubt carry into many other industries. Once again, identity finds itself central to unlocking the potential of the Internet.
