Identity Federation More Strategic than Ever

andre_durandIn my 15 years in the computer industry, I’ve observed that networking, in nearly all forms, is a one-way street. Everything is becoming more interconnected. And once networked, the process is rarely reversed.  As our systems become more intertwined, interdependent, distributed and decentralized, what was once a process of managing what’s inside our sphere of control has become blurred. Economics and demands for greater business efficiencies are driving demands for SaaS, outsourcing and cloud computing.  They in turn are all accelerating this decentralization. Identity is the key to gluing this distributed world back together. Identity must follow transactions, no matter how many boundaries a transaction crosses.

As companies evaluate the infrastructures they rely upon to maintain security, control access, ensure compliance and provide users with a frictionless work experience. Identity and specifically identity federation are key to unlocking the potential of this new distributed world.

If you haven’t looked at Ping or identity federation lately, it’s time to look again. It’s more than simply single sign-on, it’s the foundation for security, compliance, usability and personalization in a distributed world full of SaaS, cloud and virtualization.
